Online Casino Conditions >>> Slots Tips >>>The Basics of Option-Buy Casino Slots

Option-buy slot machines are one of the three types of reel slot machines players will find at online casinos. Option-buys are less common than coin multipliers and multi-line machines, and usually offer a single payline (although multi-line machines are still available). As mentioned in the previous slots tip, these machines activate additional winning symbol combinations when another coin is bet in addition to wagering on the available payline(s).

Rather than multiplying payouts like coin multiplier machines do (covered in the next tip of this series), option-buys award specific jackpot amounts for hitting particular symbol combinations when a second coin is wagered to activate the option-buy. As such, it is advised that players always bet the second coin to be eligible for all of the additional jackpots covered by the option-buy. Unlike coin multipliers, in which it is not as important to make the maximum bet amount, option-buy machines are more like progressive casino slots in that if one does not make the maximum bet, he or she is seriously compromising the payouts offered by the machine.

For instance, the option-buy slot machines which one will commonly find at casinos these days will usually offer at least three different payouts for betting the second coin. This might amount to a payout of 100 coins for hitting any three Bar symbols, 150 coins for hitting three single bar symbols, and 1,000 coins for hitting three double bar symbols. If one does not bet the second coin, they will be ineligible to receive any of these payouts. This is why putting down a second coin for the option-buy is strategically best, for there are several ways to make that second coin pay off.

As always, players are advised to study the game rules and payout table very carefully. Players often get frustrated playing these machines for they do not carefully read over the paytable. A common mistake players make is that they assume the second coin is always used for the option-buy, when is some cases it is only used as a multiplier, while a third coin is necessary to engage the option-buy. By reading over the paytable very carefully ahead of time, and always betting the maximum amount of coins, players will be giving themselves the greatest opportunity to win a sizable payout when gambling at an option-buy slot machine in the online casino.
