Summary of
Roulette Bets - Inside and OutsideRoulette is an exciting game to play. Mixing
elements of lottery or keno-like chance with a wide range
of betting options, allowing for player skill and strategy
to have an impact on the game, roulette is the favorite
betting game of many gamblers the world over.
Unlike
the lottery or keno, roulette has the potential of
delivering much better odds. Although the payouts
are not as large for top-paying lottery and keno bets,
roulette offers players the opportunity to still win very
large sums of money, but with much better odds - the risk
is just higher.
All of the bets at a game of
American Roulette return a House Edge of 5.26% (except for
the five-number bet, which delivers a House Edge of
7.89%). The bets are either called inside and
outside, and depending on the exact bet, may require
different minimum stake amounts (this will be posted at
the table).
Inside bets payout the best, and are the
hardest to win. The inside bets are called straight,
split, corner, street, double street and the previously
mentioned five-number.
A straight bet pays out the most,
and is a bet on a single number. The odds of this
winning are 35-to-1.
A split bet is when a
chip is set on the line between two numbers (betting
that either number will be hit). The odds of
this winning are 17-to-1.
A corner bet is when a chip is place on the
common corner of four different numbers (predicting that
any of the four numbers will be hit). The odds payout for
a winning corner bet are 8-to-1.
A street bet covers
three numbers at once. A chip is placed at the front
of a three-number row, predicting one of the three numbers
will hit. The street bet pays out odds of 11-to-1.
A double street bet is made when the chip is placed at the
front of a row of numbers, but centered between two rows.
This covers both rows (six numbers) and will payout
5-to-1.
The outside bets are called Red/Black,
Odd/Even, 1-18, 19-36, dozens and column bets.
A
Red/Black bet is essentially a bet that either a red or
black number will be hit. A player has a 50/50
chance of winning (not equating the 0 and 00) and so
payoff is 1-to-1.
The same is true for an Odd/Even
bet, except the bet is obviously predicting either an odd
or even number will be hit (If the ball lands on 0 or 00,
half of the bet is lost).
A bet on 1-18 or 19-36
essentially covers one half of the board. Again, the
bet has a 50/50 chance of hitting (not considering the 0
and 00, which again, warrants a loss of half the bet).
Dozens and column bets both payoff 2-to-1, and each cover
one of three sections on the roulette board. A dozens bet
covers the areas on the board marked 1st twelve, 2nd
twelve or 3rd twelve, while a column bet can be made in
any of the three areas (usually marked 2-to-1) at the end
of each corresponding column.
