Online Casino Conditions >>> Poker Tips >>>Playing at Re-Buy Poker Tournaments

A common type of internet poker tournament is the re-buy. Giving players the opportunity to buy their way back into the tournament after busting out dwindling their chip purse down too low, re-buy poker tournaments usually generate very large jackpots.

Whenever a player is knocked out and wants to re-enter the tournament, they player only needs to purchase the initial amount of chips they did when first entering the tournament. For instance, a re-buy tournament of $100+$10 gives each player an initial 1,000 chips. If a player busts out after the third hand, they can then pay another $100 for 1,000 more chips to enter the tournament where they left off.

A good question new players generally ask is how is a player prevented from waiting out until the final table and simply purchasing their re-buy at that time. The reason players cannot do this is that re-buys eventually become a freezeout tournament, thus preventing players from jumping into the tournament at the very end. At this point in the tournament, add-ons are permitted, which is essentially the act of adding more chips to one's stack - usually in the amount of the buy-in at the start of the tournament.

What is great about these poker tournaments are that players can afford to play more loose than usual, and are not pressured to sacrifice potentially good hands and jackpots in order to conserve one's chip stack early in the tournament.

Regarding playing strategy, everything (including re-buying) is dependent on each players unique circumstances. Components of the tournament that players should think about before taking a re-buy is the competition and skill level of the other players still in, whether or not a re-buy would be the most profitable move (perhaps there is a ring game that could be more worthwhile).

If it comes down to the option of purchasing an add-on, players should almost always do so. To get so far into the tournament where the add-on rule is in effect, it is paramount that a player keep their chip stack as high as possible. The only time a player should reconsider taking the add-on is if they are are not confident in their skill level, and have been riding on luck up until this point.
