Gambling Tip of the Month: Remaining
Open to Superstitions That Can't Hurt
While
it is not well-advised to gamble on superstitions, the
fact remains that millions of gamblers do indeed place
bets based on what some would call superstitious beliefs.
The majority of these gamblers hail from the Far East,
where culture, symbolism and everyday belief systems
dictate certain modes of thought that do indeed seem
strange to European and Western gamblers who are not
familiar with them. If you ask any
gambling pro, they will adamantly advise to never put
stock in anything that is not based on mathematical
strategy and probability. And while this is sound advice,
is it safe to say that the millions of bettors who
do indeed put stock in unconventional, non-mathematical
strategies are out of their mind? Not necessarily so.
Especially when it comes to playing the numbers, such as
for lotteries and high-odds games, the majority of Asian
gamblers who win multi-thousand unit jackpots, have been
on record saying they bought their winning ticket or made
a particular bet based on what could easily be termed
superstitious beliefs. Some of the most common factors
were the demeanor of the person selling the ticket, which
direction a ticket booth faced, what clothes one was
wearing and balancing one's bets between random and
specific picks. It could very well be argued that since
gambling depends so much on luck, that luck was what these
winners benefited from - and nothing else. One will never
know, although mathematic numbers are the most tangible
evidence we have. For those who find they just can't stop
believing certain superstitions, which do not
change or alter one's mathematical playing
strategy, then by all means, gratify them. If
it means wearing a different color shirt to
the casino or picking a table with a friendly
looking dealer, it's not going to hurt so long
as you also play with a sound, mathematical
strategy.
