Gambling Tip of the Month: Tips for Playing
the Flop at Texas Hold'em
Texas Hold'em
poker is a highly strategic casino game. The
best players are the one's who can work
strategy into their game every step of the
way. In addition to using bluffing skills and
playing styles, it is very important for Texas
Hold'em players to know how to deal with the
Flop (the first three community cards dealt on
the table). More often than not, players
should fold their hands after the Flop has
taken place. Obviously, one will fold their
hand if they are not holding anything that
does not have any potential of becoming a
ranking poker hand. Even if you think your
hand has a chance of winning, but has nothing
more than a high card, it still will serve you
better in the long run to fold. Think of it
this way. That high card you are folding will
now be out of the deck, thus keeping it out of
your opponents hands for future pots. In other
words, it is best to play the Flop cautiously,
especially if you are a beginner player.
Remember that if your hand has several
different possibilities of becoming a
high-ranking poker hand, its worth will always
exceed any of its possible outcomes. If, in
fact, you do have a very good hand after the
Flop, you should play aggressive thereafter.
If you are holding a draw, try to keep it as
long as possible only if the payoff on the pot
still exceeds the odds of making your hand.
