Watching for Cheats at the
Casino Craps Table
by Mike
Harrison, Strategy and Games Columnist
Craps is one of the most fast-paced and
exciting games to be had in the casinos. Depending on
which night of the week and whether a shooter is hot or
cold, the craps area can be engulfed by bettors trying to
pounce on a winning streak at a hot table. And just like
larger crowds of people tend to bring out more thieves and
crooks, craps tables have been known for attracting the
same.
Although gamblers who primarily play craps at online
casinos need not worry about the following admonition,
this is certainly something which brick 'n mortar craps
players should always keep in mind.
When you are playing
at a crowded craps table, be on the lookout for cheats.
Now, this does not mean you need to eye every player every
other second, for this would only distract you from the
game at hand and become a thorn in your strategy's side
(that is, if you are using a playing strategy to begin
with, which you should be).
Rather, what this means is you
should be aware of your surroundings, which includes the
players immediately near you, as well as within arms reach
of your chips on the craps table. Cheats have been known
to not only try and claim other player's winning bets from
the table (which a busy boxman and dealer may not be able
to keep up with 100% of the time), they have also been
known to lurk nearby and slip an arm in to steal another
player's casino rail chips.
Another type of cheating at
the craps table, although more unlikely, is when cheats
manage to sneak in a pair of weighted dice, which are
favored to roll particular numbers. Again, not something
you will have to worry about when playing craps in online
casinos, but existing as a possibility in land-based
establishments.
The bottom line is that you should always
keep your eye on the action at the table, including the
shooter and other nearby bettors.
