Identifying Slots in a Las Vegas
Casino
If you can remember your first
time ever in a brick 'n mortar casino, you might
recall a feeling of being overwhelmed or slightly
confused as to the order of slot machines and video
poker machines. In large Vegas casinos it
seems at times that these machines are randomly
placed anywhere that space can be found.
However, there is actually some order to the way
casinos set up their gaming machines.
The easiest way to find a machine is by looking
at the colored lights sitting on top of the
machines. These are known as candles, and are
actually designations as to the denomination of the
machine.
The universal code for machine denominations is
as follows: Red stands for Nickel slots, Green
stands for Dime slots, Yellow stands for Quarter
machines, Orange or Gold stands for Half Dollars
(something which you will likely get playing at a
floor table), Blue stands for One Dollar, and Purple
stands for Five Dollars.
There are slot machines that take much higher
denominations than these; However, these are usually
in their own designated area - most likely the
classiest area of the casino. Also, keep in
mind there are multi-denomination machines (usually
ranging from 5 cents to $1).
