Getting Credit in the Casino
Although it is advised not to
use a credit card for funding your gambling account
in the online casino, it is possible to get credit
in a more responsible fashion at a land-based
casino. The reason that credit in a Vegas
casino, for instance, is more responsible, is that
the casino will usually lend you no more than 75% of
the average amount of money you have in your
checking/bank account. On the other hand,
credit cards often give a line of credit that is
much more than one's average checking balance.
To get credit at a casino, gamblers must fill out
a credit application at the cashier's cage.
This could take up to a couple of days if it is your
first time. However, if you have credit with
another casino, it could take only minutes since all
the Vegas casinos use the same credit reporting
agencies.
Once you are approved, you must approach the
table you would like to gamble at and ask the dealer
for a marker. The floor supervisor will then
be called over to verify that you have credit by
checking you identification and checking a computer,
and will have you fill out a marker, which is
essentially an IOU. Most markers will pay
nothing less than $500 at one time, so be ready for
at least that much chips to gamble with.
When you are all done gambling, if you have
earned substantial winnings it is proper etiquette
to pay back your marker at the table by getting it
redeemed. (Remember to tip your dealer too!)
If it is not feasible to redeem the marker, you will
be responsible for redeeming it at the cashier's
cage.
