There are many different types of bets that can be made when
playing roulette at online casinos. Depending on the version of this popular
game (American, European and French) the Roulette table will offer more or less
the same bets, and will provide an overall Expected Value of Return - once
again, depending on the particular bets made. An easy game to learn, knowing the
different types of bets and their corresponding Casino Edges is mastering half
the game. The other half is knowing which bets to make and stay clear of. The
following tip will recap all the different types of bets:
- A Straight bet is on a
single number and pays out 35:1 with a 5.26% House Edge.
- A Split bet is a bet on
any two two adjacent numbers on the board. It pays 17:1 and has a House Edge of
5.26%.
- A Corner bet is on any four adjacent numbers forming a square on the
board. Also with a 5.26% House Edge, this bet pays 8 to 1.
- The Street bet is
placed on any three numbered row, covering three numbers and paying out 11 to 1.
Again, this wager has a 5.26% House Edge.
- A Double Street bet is a wager on two
adjacent streets (rows) thus covering six numbers and paying out 5:1. Guess what
the House Edge is on this one. Sure enough, it's 5.26%.
- The last of the inside
number bets is the 5-number bet. This is the most disadvantageous bet on the
board with a 7.89% Casinos Edge. It is placed in the upper-left corner of the
Number 1 box and covers five numbers. The payout is 6 to 1.
The best bets on the
board to make are the even money outside bets, which pay out 1:1.
These are the Red or Black, Odd or Even, 1 through 18 (low) and 19 through 36
(high).
The
last of the bets on the table are the Dozens and Columns. The Dozens cover
twelve numbers each (1-12, 13-24, and 25-36) and pay 2 to 1. The Column bet also
pays 2 to 1 and is on the twelve numbers (one of the three columns of numbers on
the board).
Next time you are in the online casino, consider keeping your chips
limited to the outside bets.
