In our last gambling tip, we took a closer look into achieving financial success
in the online casino, and how chasing after losses has never proven a good
remedy for coming out on top at the end of a betting session.
Thanks to the 2007 eCOGRA Global Online Gambler Report, a great deal of insight has been obtained
regarding the behaviors of gamblers and how those behaviors have been adding up
to reveal certain patterns which could end up being very useful in determining
previously speculated factors that could lead to financial success in online
casinos and poker rooms. In actuality, it turns out that a model for predicting
profitability when gambling on the Web was more perceivable for poker gambling
than it was for casino gambling.
In addition to findings showing a complex
relationship existing between the number of poker tables a gambler played
concurrently and the player's overall financial success, the study confirmed the
validity of bankroll management, and how it too contributed to a players overall
profit playing internet poker. A curvilinear relationship was shown to exist
between the percentage of one's bankroll used at a single time and one's
earnings in proportion to their bankroll. Those players who set aside large
portions of their overall bankroll were show to experience a positive financial
impact.
The model was backed with enough empirical evidence that the
relationship could be shown to such a fine degree as to exactly how much of a
percentage of one's bankroll would produce the most positive financial impact.
According to the survey, poker players were generally more successful when they
gambled with only 2% to 20% of their bankroll. The optimum range for maximizing
financial success was playing with 2% to 10% of one's bankroll.
Understandably, when one has less money to play with, they will be less inclined
to take big chances, go all-in, and blow an entire bankroll prematurely. By
playing it safe (folding more often than not!), poker players can hold out
longer and withstand the ups and downs of chance. In our next tip, we will
discuss some other factors that have been shown to contribute to success in the
poker rooms as opposed to the casinos.
