Disconnections and Casino Gaming Transparency

In our last tip we discussed the findings of eCOGRA's 2006
Global Gambler Survey in relation to many of the reported
problems experienced by players when gambling in poker
rooms and online casinos. While we are very pleased to say
there are no "problems" plaguing the gaming industry,
improvements can certainly still be had. In fact, aside
from software disconnection, which is a problem shared by
casino operators, software developers, internet service
providers and the players themselves, there still is much
needed progress in the areas of gaming operator
transparency and player understanding.
Regarding
disconnections, this was the most common problem reported
by players. First off, players should note that the
best
online casino software platforms on the market will log playing results
down to the instant before being disconnected from the
software. Therefore, when players log back in, they will
automatically enter the game at the exact point in which
they were disconnected. If the player was disconnected in
the middle of a hand, the gaming software will complete
the hand and record the finished results, which the player
will be able to view upon logging back in.
Software disconnections may be an
inconvenience at times, but players need to rest assured
that the security of the gaming experience is not being
compromised during a disconnection. More often than not,
the cause of disconnections are due to the internet
service being timed out, which is not the fault of the
casinos in the first place.
Another area where there needs to be more
improvement is in the amount of mistrust that players
often have...and rightfully so. Online gaming site operators as a
whole need to be more transparent and take the time to
explain how the gaming environment works, especially in
terms of fairness.
Surprisingly, one-third of internet
gamblers surveyed by eCOGRA reported they thought there
was an "on/off" switch in the software that gaming
operators could use to give them more of an edge against
the players. And while this is certainly a misconception,
online casino operators should take responsibility for this
misconception and make an effort in perhaps devoting a
webpage explaining how their payouts are maintained and
gaming results are randomly procured - and not with
generalized word service. We mean really explain
how it works. In our next tip, we will take that
responsibility and inform our readers how fairness is
obtained and why players should trust gaming hosts who
have the proper accreditations.
