Self-Exclusion - What it Means to the Online Gambler
by Mike Harrison, Strategy and Games Writer

Anti-online gambling activists usually cite addiction as their primary argument. Not to entirely discredit this argument, because let's face it, online gambling addiction does exist, what many people do not understand is that problem gamblers represent a very small minority of the total population of active bettors. This is especially true on the internet, where catching addictive behavior  in its early stages is not difficult to do.

If you have ever gambled at an online casino before, you should be keen to your personal betting habits. If, for example, you have ever found yourself chasing losses or losing more money than you had originally allotted yourself on a repeated basis, well then, this a personal betting habit. And in this particular example, this is a betting habit which should raise some warning flags.

The reason we are bringing this up is that the temptation to develop a gambling addiction will always be there. For many gamblers, they don't need to think about it for they are very disciplined in their money management and playing strategy. But for that small minority who are inclined to be swayed by their emotions, an honest assessment of one's betting habits in the casino is a must.

Let us say that you have determined you have a propensity to chase losses and bet more money than you initially allot yourself. Yet, despite this trend, you truly love to gamble at online casinos and consider doing so a valuable form of entertainment and leisure in your life. Rather than stopping altogether, which oftentimes causes people to build up frustration to the point where they have an online gambling relapse and do more damage than they would if they kept their betting in moderation to begin with, search out online casinos which offer self-exclusion services.

When we say "self-exclusion", this does not mean you have to entirely exclude yourself from betting. Many casinos offer automated software services that put a cap on how much you bet in a given time period. Once you hit this predetermined value, that's it - No more betting. You can't go back in and change the settings or open a new account with the site.

Keep this in mind when opening an internet betting account. If you are weary of your potential bad habits, ask a customer service rep ahead of time to ensure the site offers self-exclusion services.
