Testing Out Winning Slot Machines in the Casino

Before committing to a betting session on a slot machine, players are always advised to give the machine a test-go.  What this means is that during your first few spins of the reels, pay close attention to how the slot machine is responding.  After a short run, determine how much money you have won - if any - and if the payout ratio is within an acceptable range for your bankroll.

A very good gauge for determining if it is worth staying on a particular machine is the break-even point.  In other words, if after a pre-designated series of consecutive spins, your bankroll is relatively close to where you first started your gambling session, it is feasible to stay on that slot machine and give it another run, only to take a moment later on once again to determine your bankroll status. As long as you are not in the red, the machine you are at is worth giving some continued action. However, if after a short run, your bankroll has taken a relatively good hit, immediately move on to another machine, and never look back.

Of course, anything is possible when you are gambling. You may leave a slot machine, only to see another player hit it big just moments after you left your previous position.  Yet, even if you were still on that particular machine, does not mean you still would have won like the player after you did.  Payouts are determined by the Random Number Generator (a computer chip in the slot) which assigns payouts based on the exact millisecond a player presses the spin button or pulls the arm.

And although the notion of "dumping" (slot machines that payout a big sum after going on a long dead streak) does seem to occur on the casino floor, this does not mean you should stay on a non-paying machine in hopes that it is going to "dump" at any time.  Your best bet at keeping alive is to always move on to another machine.  By doing so, you are increasing your chances of sitting at a loose machine, or, at a slot machine that is going to dump.
