Considerations for Selecting Casino Slots

Selecting a slot machine to play in a land-based casino should be more than just walking up to any slot machine and giving it a go.  Aside from the more obvious factors of selecting a machine, such as the betting stakes, type of machine (progressive, straight, video slot) and payout schedule, players should adopt a certain sense to help them seek out the best paying (loosest) slot machines.

Contrary to what some slot machine advocates say, it is not a well-known practice for casinos to hide their loosest slot machines out of the reach from players.  On the contrary, it only makes sense that casinos would want these machines to be played in the open, so that other gamblers would see them being won, and consequently be inspired to play for their self.

This does not mean that you will always find the loosest slot machine near the cashier line.  Nor does it mean that you will not find two loose slot machines sitting directly next to each other.  Remember, there is no definitive formula for repeated success in the gambling world (unless you are the casino).  However, many players swear by the notion that loose slot machines are located in high traffic areas of a casino, while tight machines are located in areas where typical non-slot players gather.

There is also the belief that looser machines are spread out as close as every fourth machine, and as far apart as every twelfth machine.  We do not recommend any player to adapt their whole playing strategy to this idea.  However, if you already have the intentions of playing a particular machine, and witness a big jackpot or a loose machine in that particular bank, it is not going to hurt to pick an open machine that is at least four spots down from the loose machine.

Do not become enslaved by unproven notions or myths.  But at the same time, try to use the pool of knowledge (and belief) in a way that is not going to hurt, but rather, could only end up helping in the grand scheme of things.
