Strategy for
Posting Blinds in the Online Poker RoomA
difference between land-based poker games and those found
at online poker rooms - one that can be used to the online
player's advantage - is regarding the posting of blinds.
In both forms of poker games, players are almost always
permitted to post the big blind if they want to be dealt
cards on the very next hand after joining the table.
However, just because a player joins the table, does not
mean they are required to play the very next hand.
If one so chooses, they may wait until it is their natural
turn to post the big blind and join play at that time. That way, one does not have to pay two big blinds in
close duration between hands. In the brick 'n mortar
casino poker room, waiting for one's natural turn to post
the big blind can take up to fifteen minutes or more,
whereas in the online poker room, waiting may take only a
couple of minutes.
Some players cannot wait to get into
the game, and so do not mind posting the big blind right
away. However, for those players who have a moderate
bankroll perhaps, or who are in no rush to begin with,
waiting to play a hand is a good decision. If
anything, waiting at the table is a great opportunity to
watch the other players, and get a wind of playing styles
and skill.
In online poker rooms, players can even watch a
table from within the casino lobby without even having to
take a seat at the table. This is a great practice
to get into, which will only help one's playing strategy
in the long run.
