2006 FIFA World Cup Odds - Group E

As far as who might have a chance of winning the World Cup from the selection of teams in Group E, the team most favored to make it is Italy, although some online forecasters are saying this is a highly overrated call.  Some believe that as long as Italy can avoid meeting up with Brazil in the final sixteen, they stand a reasonable chance of winning.

The other three teams in Group E are Ghana (who faces Italy in their opening match), the Czech Republic and USA.  Even though this is the Czech Republic's first World Cup, they are an experienced team with experienced players, and are coming in on most betting lines as being the second finisher in this group.  The one thing that may end up being a weakness that does not pass them through is their defense.

USA will face the Czech Republic in their opening match, which should be a very good game.  Despite an experienced American team with twelve players who attended last year's World Cup, it is unsure if the quality of competition the American team has faced in the last year, was enough to keep them on their toes and take their playing to the next level.  Although they assuredly are amongst the best soccer clubs in the world, it will take more than confidence and individual talent to win this group.

As for Ghana, this too is their first time at the World Cup.  Although they played tough to make it to Germany, they are undoubtedly one of the weaker teams in the tournament, and are not expected to win any games.  Online predictions are that Italy will assuredly be one of the top two teams in this group.  The tougher bet is whether USA or Czech Republic will end up facing Italy.
