The Odds of
Widespread Internet Casino Regulation
by Mike
Harrison, Strategy and Games
WriterPredictions abound in the world of online casino gambling.
While some have better odds than others, still there are
even those predictions which odds cannot even help to
justify happening. One such prediction that seems to be in
continuous circulation these days is whether or not the
U.S. government will reverse its decision to ban internet
gambling.
There seems to be an overwhelming majority who
think this will happen, although they concede it will very
likely not happen in 2007. Of course, anyone with an
interest in online casinos, poker rooms or sports betting
is going to hope for regulation. However, until that day
comes (it will certainly come...just take a close look at
Prohibition, aka, the Dry Law, which stood in effect from
1920 until 1933), bettors are still going to find ways to
place bets at internet gambling sites. Of course, an
increasing number of rogue sites will also start showing
up, and many bettors will fall victim to their traps.
We
have already seen a few such internet casinos show up on the scene.
One of them was so sloppily put together and either
ill-informed on how to speak English, or just plain
ignorant (most likely both), they claimed on their About
Us page to have over 100 years of business experience and
over 45 years of internet experience. That means these
guys have been doing business on the Web since 1962. What
Web?! Oh yes, I forgot - the Sixties Free Love movement
got its message spread via the internet.
The gaming
industry and the players who comprise it have to face the
fact that many gaming businesses are dropping out of the
U.S. sector and that the internet is now a more dangerous
place to stake bets. The best advice anyone could give to
new players is to ask questions and be patient. If you are
unsure about the legitimacy of a casino, post a query here
or at other credible watchdog and reviewer sites. One
prediction that is good as gold is that no player will go
wrong betting at any of the
online caisnos reviewed here at OCC.
