It may very well be the thing to do these days.  However, doing it consistently and just doing it are two entirely different concepts.  What I am referring to is making a career out of gambling.

The vast majority of gamblers who fall into this category are online poker players.  Thanks to the mass media, becoming an online poker professional is fast becoming the aspirations of many players who believe they have what it takes to be the best.  Some players have indeed been successful at playing online poker - some more than others.  Some have even quit their day jobs...but for the time being.

Before you actually do quit your day job, be sure you understand that being a professional gambler is not a stable profession.  One could be on top of the gambling world one day, and at the bottom of the losing heap the next.  Rather, before quitting your day job, be sure you have enough savings to get you through down times.  Have a back-up in case things do not pick up either.  That way - hopefully - you will not find yourself with absolutely nothing to show for.
