Taking Time To Play More Than Just Poker Online
by Ryan O'Donnell, Strategy and Games Writer

Internet poker still continues to be one of the most popular forms of gambling amidst the large number of online casinos, sportsbooks and gaming sites on the Web these days.

With noteworthy poker rooms offering thousands in guaranteed tournaments, as well as free play with unlimited "play money", depending on your particular interests and goals, there is a poker game and table suited to anyone's fancy. Many online casino sites are now offering poker rooms of their own, due to the high demand of gamers wanting to gamble at more than just traditional casino table games and video machines.

If you are thinking about venturing into the world of internet poker and possibly joining one of the many site-contained tournaments and/or satellite tournaments for the World Series of Poker or World Poker Tour, you should consider playing hands-on local poker games with friends or family or at nearby casinos in your neck of the woods.

There are several reasons why hands-on poker helps to make a better player than one who solely plays on the internet. First and foremost, poker is a game of sharp sighted strategy. Although you will not always be able to read signs, or "tell" when another player is bluffing over the internet, hands-on experience at real tables does facilitate that sixth sense, if you will, for calling other players bluffs - even when sitting at a computer and not being able to see the other player. Not only does hands-on action help breed confidence, it introduces players to the real fun of poker, which is live interaction with other people and personalities.

And if you ever get any inclination to join a satellite tournament to win a seat at the WSOP or WPT, you better be sure you take part in plenty of land based or at-home poker games, for sitting down across from other players with a large stack of chips in front of you, is an altogether different experience than playing poker on the Web.
