Managing Your Time at the Online Poker Table

If you have ever played poker before, whether online or in your friends kitchen, you know how important time factors into the game.  Since poker is a game of intense strategy, it is best for players to take their time and think through each decision.

However, just because it is standard protocol for players to take their time, this does not mean that players can take all the time they want to.  Especially when playing poker in an online casino, players need to be aware of how much time they are taking to make a decision.  If you take too long, you will forfeit your action, and your hand will be automatically folded.

The way it works in the online poker room is that each player has a designated amount of time to make their decision, which is monitored by a timer.  When the time begins winding down, a flashing timer will appear on the screen (usually accompanied by a buzzer of sorts).  In order to beat the timer, it is imperative you be thinking about your next move, even if other players have not acted.

One way to speed up the rate of the game is to enter your action ahead of time.  The playing platform will give you the option of doing so, depending on what the other players ahead and behind you have chosen to do.

For instance, if you are the fourth player to act and the first player has checked, you can mark the check box ahead of time.  So long as the next two players check also, you will not have to act when it comes time for your turn.  If one of the players ahead of you decides to bet, then your your early check will be voided and you will be given a new set of betting options, which you can select at any time before your actual turn.
