Rules and Odds of Games Vary Amongst Online Casinos
by Mike Harrison, Strategy and Games Writer

In our previous gambling tip we discussed how gamblers can best familiarize themselves with the selection of games at an online casino. In addition to being a great way to see the inner workings of a site's software platform (at least from the player's point of view), player's can use this time as an opportunity to learn the rules of new games and practice strategic playing skills.

What we did not mention in our previous tip, however, is that players can further use this time to find more favorable rules at specific games. Indeed, depending on the gaming host, some game rules can be favorable for the player. Admittedly, the rules of games will be the same at online casinos using the same software. However, there are enough legitimate software developers in operation these days to give enough of a variety of game rules that it's worth one's time to check into them.

Keep in mind that this piece of advice is for player's who know exactly what they are looking for. For instance, for the popular game of Jacks or Better Video Poker, Playtech Software powered casinos payout 9 coins to 1 for a Full House and 6 coins to 1 for a Flush (full payout machines). A casino using Real Time Gaming software on the other hand, pays out 8 coins to 1 for a Full House and 5 coins to 1 for a Flush (partial payout machines). It is only one coin difference, but can make the winning difference for an avid Jacks or Better video poker player using optimal strategy. In fact, the expected value of return is a 2.2% difference between the two.

Now, if you have no intentions to play video poker, or, if you think you might but do not mind the difference in payouts (which does not make a big difference if you are not going to be playing indefinitely and with optimized strategy anyways), this will not be as important a concern as other game related issues.

Another case in which rules can effect a players overall odds is at the game of blackjack. Some online casinos payout a hand of blackjack with 6 to 5, while others payout 3 to 2, which is the better payout, although it may not look that way to someone who is not keen on reading odds. The bottom line is that it is each gambler's responsibility to determine for themselves what games they want to play and to become familiar with the payouts and rules. If at any time you are unclear, well, that's what we are here for. Give us a buzz on our Contact Us page.
