When shopping for a good sports bet, one needs to know what kind of numbers to look for. 

At no time should anyone place a bet simply because they like one team over another or have a hunch on the winner.  If the numbers are not there to begin with, even if a hunch-bet does win, it will probably not be worth the risk in the first place. 

Rather, all sports bettors should be aware of the lines they are betting on at all times.  While certain sports will produce more volatile lines, some sports matches will remain relatively stable from sportsbook to sportsbook. 

For instance, NFL games ten to settle their lines, which remain very consistent no matter which sportsbook bettors decide to place their bets.  However, other sports like basketball are more volatile in that the odds covering these games tend to change often.  Depending on the betting patterns that are showing for certain games, sportsbooks will continually change the numbers on these lines. 

It is up to each individual bettor to find the sportsbook offering the best line for the game they want to bet on.  Although the numbers may only vary by a single point or two, it only takes a single point to be the difference between a game result and a winning or losing bet.
