The newly renovated Twin River casino in Rhode
Island has opened back up to the public after finishing some $200 million in
renovations that includes a large expansion to the casino itself, as well as new
dining and entertainment add-ons. In an effort to attract a younger crowd, i.e.,
the large demographic of twenty and thirty-somethings, Twin River's management (BLB
Investors) built an entire food court, several distinct restaurants, comedy club
and a performance space that doubles for a convention center. Besides an upscale
steakhouse and Italian eatery, food options include a Dunkin Donuts, Ronzio
Pizza and Subs and a noodle shop.
All apart of the combination casino and greyhound
track, the upgraded amenities come twenty-six months after BLB Investors first
bought Twin River in July 2005 for $445 million. Now, the casino offers over
4,750 video lottery terminals, 4,500 slot machines developed by leading
manufacturers like IGT, WMS Gaming and G-Tech, keno and video poker - all under
200,000 square feet of roofed gaming space. Some of the most popular games are
offered here, including Cleopatra, Reel Fruit, Deal or No Deal, Milk Money and
Double & Triple Diamonds.
Betting stakes on the machines range from 1 penny
to $25, while regular jackpots exceed $25,000 and progressive jackpots starting
off at $50,000 and exceeding $650,000. On average, $16 million is won every week
by casino-goers at Twin River. This is to be expected, considering the casino
draws about 14,000 visitors every day. Again, since the vast component of these
visitors are in the 60-plus retiree age-range, the current renovations were
inspired, in part, to draw more visitors from the younger crowd. So far, the
response has been terrific. Twin River Casino has certainly become one of the
hottest gambling spots in the New England region.
