As reported through the Las Vegas Gaming Wire,
Planet Hollywood Casino Resort has made the decision to delay its grand opening
until November 16, 2007. Pushed back seven weeks from its original opening,
Planet Hollywood is on schedule in terms of construction and financing.
Co-owner, Robert Earl cited the delays were primarily due to schedule conflicts
with Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone, both of whom are slated to attend the
opening.
Earl also said it would be unwise to hold two high
profile events within a single week of each other. He was referring to the
September 20 world premiere of the blockbuster film, "Resident Evil:
Extinction", starring Milla Jovovich. As part of a long-term plan to host the
world premiere of a high profile film every month, Planet Hollywood Las Vegas is
going to be a hopping place come September. To throw in a grand opening on top
of the initial movie premiere would indeed call for a busy schedule.
Come November 16, all 1,500 hotel rooms will be
remodeled and ready for occupancy. Another 1,100 are planned to be finished by
early 2008. There will also be an additional three restaurants open to the
public by November, in addition to the two new restaurants opened since April of
this year. With the casino remodeling already complete, a new poker room, a
massive, high-tech sportsbook to be opened in August, and a Strip-side plaza
scheduled for completing in September, Planet Hollywood will certainly be a
hotspot in Las Vegas.
Planet Hollywood Resort was purchased for $496
million back in 2004 as part of a joint venture between Robert Earl, Bay Harbour
Management and Starwood Resorts (who owns Westin, Sheraton, W Hotels and St.
Regis to name a few). It formerly stood as the Aladdin Resort and Casino, and
has come a very long way since that time. In addition to offering an entirely
new gaming destination, Planet Hollywood has teamed up with Westgate Resorts to
build a 50-story luxury vacation ownership and condominium tower. Having broken
ground in January of 2006, the multi-million dollar tower will be connected
directly to the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino complex and will offer 1,200
additional units ranging from one to four bedrooms.
