The Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission,
whose gaming regulatory jurisdiction was recently admitted to the UK online
casino "white list" of responsible and premiere online gambling jurisdictions
outside of the European Economic Area, has appointed a new chairperson and
additional Commission member. Isle of Man's Chief Minister announced the
appointments in a recent conference.
Appointed to help oversee the increasing load of
regulatory duties and responsibilities taken upon the Commission, local
advocate, Jerry Carter will take up a member seat on the commission, while Manx
solicitor and advocate, Claire Milne, will replace outgoing chairperson, Jane
O'Rourke. Milne has a background in the intellectual property fields, including
IT Law, and data protection in the areas of e-commerce and online gaming.
Isle of Man's Chief Minister made it clear the
online casino and gaming sector is important to the Isle of Man economy, and
that the recent inclusion of the Gambling Supervision Commission is a testament
to the great steps the Commission has taken to ensure its licensees have the
freedom to market in the UK, while still keeping to strict regulatory provisions
and best practices.
The Chief Minister also stated how important the
role of the Gambling Supervision Commission is to continued, effective
regulation of offshore online casino companies. The appointments of Milne and
Carter have therefore been made with due consideration in keeping with the high
standards governing the Commission itself. Milne and Carter will take up their
new positions at a time in which the European online gambling industry is
expanding under increasingly uniform regulation standards.
