The Bell Gardens, California casino, Bicycle Casino, issued a press release
recounting the World Poker Tour Ladies Night tournament held on their poker room
floor Friday, August 31 - just one day after the WPT Legends of Poker main event
wrapped up. Televised by WPT, and scheduled for broadcast on the Game Show
Network in the early Spring of 2008, the event brought out the biggest female
poker stars in the professional circuit, including Mimi Tran, Kristy Gazes,
Pamela Brunson, J.J. Liu, Melissa Hayden and Linda Johnson, otherwise known as
the "First Lady of Poker".
The all-star cast was picked based on rankings from the previous season,
including last year's Ladies Night Tournament winner and the winner of the
Legends of Poker Ladies No-Limit Hold'em Tournament (held by Pamela Brunson). In
the end, it was Kristy Gazes who outlasted the rest of the pack, going home with
a $25,000 buy-in seat to the World Poker Tour Championship in April of next
year.
Heads-up action went down between Gazes and
bracelet holder Linda Johnson, who normally is calling off the showdowns at WPT
final tables in front of the camera. The showdown really wasn't much of a
showdown, for Gazes chip count was so high, she cleared Johnson out after only
six hands. For most people, however, the thrill was just to see all the top
female players in poker seated at a single table together in a male dominated
arena.
Bicycle Casino was more than pleased to host the
event. Managing Partner, Haig Kelegian put it best when he said that beauty and
brains is always a great combination. The Bicycle poker room certainly has been
a draw for all poker players - male and female. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week, and just outside of downtown Las Angeles, Bicycle is a hotspot for many
tournament players.
