More news to report from the UK gambling front,
only this time it is regarding brick 'n mortar casino operations in the heart of
Newcastle, England. In the city's bid to host a super casino as allowed per the
recently passed guidelines of the UK Gambling Act, a large turnout of supporters
met last week to offer their guidance to the Newcastle City Council for
preparing a bid that was given to the Casino Advisory Panel earlier today.
The task at hand involves convincing the Advisory
Panel that Newcastle is indeed the most advantageous city to build the UK's
first (and possibly only) super casino. The Panel has the plenty of power in
giving its recommendation, so to win them over will be a major achievement for
the Newcastle City Council.
Showing tremendous backing from many businesses and
organizations, the current bid looks quite impressive. Supporting it from behind
the scenes are The Journal, Newcastle Gateshead Initiative, One North East,
Newcastle College, NEXUS, Newcastle Federation Breweries, Newcastle
International Airport and the North East Chamber of Commerce.
The Council also has accrued numerous letters from
organizations in support of a super casino going up in Newcastle. Some of
these include the Utopian Leisure Group, Newcastle University, North East
Assembly, Northumberland Tourism and Newcastle City Centre Partnership. Although
other UK city's are getting support from their surrounding community, the
backing that Newcastle City Council has garnered is an impressive feat. No news
just yet as to how the public meeting went with the Casino Advisory Panel.
