Tribal Casinos Get Standardized With the Help of the GSA
Casino Conditions Staff

Casino gaming standards have always been in an issue in North American tribal casinos.  However, that recurring nightmare for some casinos is about to be no more, now that the Gaming Standards Association has begun implementing a communication protocol called the S2S, which is designed to fully integrate all hardware and software into a single operations interface. The Seminole Indians were the first to successfully integrate the system.  And now that it has proven to be a godsend, several other tribal casinos, including the Cherokees, are in the process of standardizing their casino floors and back end operations.

Standards in multiple casino gaming operations have been a hard thing to find until more modern times.  Often dramatically raising startup and expansion costs, communing various propriety hardware can be quite the laborious and time-consuming task.  This is where the Gaming Standards Association goes to work - who has recently made substantial progress in its attempt at standardizing tribal casinos in the U.S.

Using the System to System protocol, or S2S for short, the GSA has already implemented the flexible software setup at the Seminole Casino in Florida, as well as the Choktaw and Cherokee Casinos.  The way the S2S works is as a communication interface that permits multiple casino operations, ranging from hospitality and gaming content to ticketing and accounting.  This system actually facilitates different machines (with different makers) to interact on a single line of communication.  According to the GSA, the system is allowing for smoother operations on the casino floor and behind closed doors.

Even representatives of specialized casino gaming operations are commenting on the contribution of S2S.  What the system essentially permits is plug and play.  No more troubleshooting and waiting for system integrations to be executed by third parties.  Now, if a particular machine is not performing up to casino standards, it can be replaced by an entirely different machine without fear or worry of incompatibility.

As the S2S continues to be integrated in tribal casinos across North America, it will be sure to catch the attention of Las Vegas and Atlantic City casinos, who may just find the protocol to be even more efficient than their own.  The system, however, gives its most beneficial impact to the tribal casinos who were often finding themselves with a lack of resources and technology necessary to operate a state-of-the-art casino.
