World Poker Tour Brings Out
Strategists in Atlantic City
Casino Conditions StaffThe
World Poker Tour is in full swing with the Borgata
Poker Open passing through its third day and leaving
only forty-five players in contention of winning the
jackpot pool. Seventeen players were
eliminated at the end of the day, bringing the
remaining pack one step closer to the $1.5 million
first place prize.
In the lead is David Singer, who walked away with
over $3 million in chips. There are several
other large stack players in contention though,
including John D'Agostino with nearly $2.5 million,
Robert Hwang with close to $2 million, Al Ardebili
with nearly $1.5 million, and the #2 all-time
women's money winner, Kathy Leibert.
The action at the Atlantic City Casino was much
more dramatic than is usually the case.
Typically, the action turns into big spending
matches; However, the players really showed why
poker is such a thinking game, instead turning the
rounds into chess-like battles between military
commanders. The poker faces were on, but
started to break by the end of the 18-hour stretch.
Big-time pros were left in the dust, and no-names
stepped up to the plate, managing to barely hold on.
The player with the fewest chips was Richard
Festejo, holding onto $540,000, and putting fear
into other players for being a consistent top
finisher at many low buy-in poker matches.
However, the top dogs are holding very strong
stacks, and might be hard to catch. The rest
of the action begins at 5 pm on Monday, which the
Travel Channel is covering every step of the way.
It will be televised in the weeks to come.
