Louisiana Issues More Arrest Warrants
for Sportingbet Online
Online Casino Conditions Staff
October 3, 2006

With Sportingetbet Director Peter Dicks scheduled for a court hearing this upcoming Thursday in New York, the State of Louisiana continues to put the pressure on the online gambling community after announcing there are three other arrest warrants out for Sportingbet executives, as well as for director's and executives of other gaming sites who have and are accepting bets from Louisiana residents.

If it were not for New York law, Dicks would probably be in Louisiana already facing a trial. However, due to what Louisiana State Police are calling a "glitch" in the law, Dicks may be able to resist extradition to Louisiana because of the fact that he has not stepped foot in Louisiana in over twenty years, and therefore could not have committed a crime there. Captain Joe Lentini, who is head of Casino Affairs in Louisiana Police Department's Gaming Enforcement Branch, said that even if Dick's is able to dodge the bullet, the case will not be the same for other online casino and sportsbook CEO's who enter the United States.

Lentini said he would not disclose the names of the other Sportingbet CEO's who have arrest warrants out for them, although Sportingbet Finance Director, Andy McIver, told Reuters that he strongly suspects his own name to be on that list, and that his actions will rest upon that very assumption. The Sportingbet Board is also acting on this assumption and has since given a travel embargo to all of its executives.

Lentini also elaborated on how Louisiana's crackdown on the online casino and sports betting industry lead a trail to Sportingbet. Simply put, on a list compiled of online gaming sites who were taking money bets from Louisiana, Sportingbet Plc. was the first one listed. Furthermore, information about the company was the easiest to obtain, including who the executive Board was staffed by. Considering that Sportingbet is a legitimate online business listed on the Alternative Market of the London Stock Exchange, the fact that Dicks was arrested to begin with came as a shock to the online casino and sports betting industry.
