One of Microgaming Casino Software's top online poker room licensees, Poker Time, is hosting a series of National Football League betting tournaments beginning Saturday, October 7, 2006. With twenty-four entrants in each tournament culminating in three final rounds, the action is expected to be highly competitive, and with increased odds. Poker Time is guaranteeing a combined jackpot of $17,500, split up over three finals on November 7 ($2,500), November 8 ($5,000) and November 9 ($10,000).

Instead of awarding jackpots outright, winners have the option of converting their winnings into an NFL Super Bowl package, thus giving them an opportunity to attend one of the most sought after sporting events of the year. Poker Time says they got the idea for the tournaments when they heard what tickets for the 2006 Super Bowl were selling for.

Getting tickets to the Super Bowl is very difficult unless one is willing to pay large sums of money, which Poker Time says many of their players would be willing to do. Poker has become a professional sport in itself over the years, and many of the dedicated players at online casinos and poker rooms these days are also big sports fans, whether it be American football or European football.

To qualify for any of the three finals, players can post the buy-in of $5 + $.50 for at any of the five qualifying tournaments beginning on October 7 and running every Saturday until October 28. Furthermore, players can qualify if they meet raked hand requirements covering a fifteen day period in October. In other words, those who play a lot of online poker, will be eligible to enter the finals. As part of the football fun, Poker Time is also awarding fifty free poker chips to players who correctly guess the outcome of one NFL matchup on the weekend of the qualifying tournament the player is participating in.
