Casino News Article of the Month: U.S.
Online Gambling Prohibition Bill Attached to
Port Securities Bill
Nothing is more relevant to the online casino
gambling industry right now than what the U.S.
government decides to do with it. Now that the
Online Gambling Prohibition Bill has passed
the House of Representatives and awaits the
U.S. Senate, it appears the bill may go up for
a vote before the adjournment of this year's
Congressional Session after all. It appears
that Senate Majority Leader, Bill Frist, was
successful at amending a Port Securities bill
to include internet betting prohibition
provisions. His first attempt to attach the
bill to a Department of Defense Authorization
bill was unsuccessful due to its completely
unrelated subject matter. One would surmise
that relevancy would also be lacking with a
Port Securities bill, but somehow Frist
managed to attach the bill regardless. The
provisions that Frist has included reportedly
pertain to blocking credit card companies,
U.S. banks and other online payment systems
from making payments to online casinos and
internet betting sites. Signatures were being
collected as of the last Friday in September,
which if passed by the Senate, would only need
the President's signature to go into law.
