Although American citizens remain to be the largest contributor to the online
casino gambling industry, there are a small handful of anti-gambling politicians
still trying to weasel legislation into the 109th Congress. Most online
casino bettors will likely recognize the name of John Kyl, Republican Senator
from Arizona. He was responsible for most of the antagonizing stemming
from those who would like to see online casinos become an illegal destination
for U.S. internet users.
After having his bill rejected as an appropriations measure to the
Congressional meetings in September of this year, Kyl has vowed he will get his
bill onto the Senate Floor this upcoming year. This would be Kyl's third
attempt at trying to sway Congress to accomplish something that most citizens
feel is too far-reaching.
However, Kyl is not alone in his agenda. Another Republican Senator,
James Leach from Iowa, has stepped up once again after nearly a year of silence
regarding online casinos and internet betting. Leach recently wrote a
letter to all the members of Congress, informing them that they all have a
responsibility to put an end to online gambling. In the letter, Leach
bashed online casinos, saying they can only cause gambling addictions and tax
evasion. The biggest fear tactic Leach used in the letter was that online
casinos were helping to fund terrorist activities.
Despite the warnings, it seems that American politicians are beginning to
take wind of how the UK is going about regulating online gambling and
casinos. As long as there is regulation, the inherent problems that Leach
pointed out will be drastically curbed, if not ended entirely. Online
Betting has gotten too large for one government to put an end to it. Now
it is just a matter of time before the opposition realizes this, or someone
steps up in support of online gambling regulation, and shows the flawed
reasoning behind those who think it best to leave the industry unregulated.
