The only thing that stands in the way of Station
Casinos to build another casino resort is Senate
Bill 208, notoriously known as SB208. The
gaming site developer has already acquired over
fifty acres of land in a six parcel packages from
Unlimited Holding in Las Vegas. The land is
located at the northeast corner Of Losee Rd. and Las
Vegas Beltway, which may prove as a hindrance in
trying to build a casino.
Although the land is very undeveloped, SB208
requires all casinos to be a minimum distance from
churches, schools and neighborhoods. In other
words, it is a prevention measure against casinos
from the Strip bleeding into local neighborhoods.
Station Casinos realizes the issue at hand, for they
were denied from building a casino at the Craig
Ranch Golf Course - and it wasn't just a bill that
stopped them, for there are plenty of loopholes for
a smart developer to get around the bill. On
the contrary, it was local residents who organized
themselves in great numbers and rallied to show
enough dissent against a casino at the golf course
that influenced a state review panel to deny the
casino.
Station is playing it safe this time around, for
the land purchase gives them much more leverage if
another battle is waged. A company
spokesperson commented that the company does plan to
build a casino resort on the land, but that the
project could take several years just in the
planning. There is no telling when and if
construction will begin. The first task at
hand is to insure a new casino resort would not be
in violation of SB208 and the closest neighborhood
residents.
