It is not often that you see gambling funds
directly going to help save the environment. Well, in this day and age when the
realities of global warming can no longer be put off as a hoax, the prospects of
using the Casinos Edge to give the environment an edge over Carbon Dioxide and
other pollutants, are certainly more feasible. Being amongst the first to lead
the way in this regard is poker legend and owner of the famed online poker room,
Doyle's Room - Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson.
Mr. Brunson is apparently putting up some hefty
bucks to help fund an environmental documentary being produced by Leonardo
DiCaprio, who is already well known for being an environmental activist and
spokesperson for hybrid automobile technology. In what will likely be a
follow-up to Al Gore's film, An Inconvenient Truth, DiCaprio's film will
put an emphasis on practical solutions that individuals can take in helping to
restore the ecosystem and prevent further degradation of the Earth's natural
environment.
Brunson and DiCaprio have been friends for a good
while. Their common interest in the saving the Earth for future generations has
certainly been one of the commonalities uniting their friendship. Being in the
public spotlight, not to mention possessing very large bankrolls, the two men
are making the most of their fame and notoriety. DiCaprio has been speaking out
about these issues on several fronts, including the Oprah Winfrey Show, while
Brunson has openly expressed his concern of global warming and the state of the
environment in the past. Brunson said he is confident the documentary will
heighten awareness even more about these important issues plaguing the world
currently.
The documentary will be premiering at the next
Cannes Film Festival, as part of a special screening not entered in competition.
However which way the film fares (this author is predicting very well), it is
certainly good to see more gambling money going to the important issues which
need the financial support. A globally distributed feature length film about
saving the environment is certainly a cause worth funding.
