The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is getting
closer to appointing several gaming establishment with slots licenses, and it
looks as if Aztar Corporation may be one of them. In Lehigh County, where
the city of Allentown has been selected as a proposed site for a slots casino,
six out of nine county commissioners voted to recommend Aztar Corp. for
receiving a license that would let them set up shop in Allentown.
The news was announced by the Commission itself so
that no misconceptions would remain regarding where the majority of
commissioners stood in their views on the application submitted by Aztar to
build a brand new casino slots resort in the eastern area of Allentown.
Estimated at $325 million, the casino would be of substantial size and would do
wonders for the city, which desperately needs a financial boost to its economy.
Aztar has already produced a sketch of the casino floor and the surrounding
amenities.
The recommendation was made in the form of letters,
which not only declared their impartial support for Aztar's presence in
Allentown, but cited the benefits of having a slots casino in Allentown.
The absence of recommendations by other commissioners was not addressed.
In a news conference announcing the recommendation (held in a county building in
Allentown), Commissioner Chairman, Percy Dougherty made it clear the majority of
the commissioners supported Aztar.
