It may seem a bit
trivial in the grand scheme of things, yet the fact remains that the title of
"largest", "biggest" or "best" does warrant a claim to fame in this modern age
of consumerism. The problem is that these claims often go unsubstantiated, which
ultimately, is what a "claim" surmounts to anyways. In the gambling world,
especially amidst the legacy of online casinos, the claims of "best" and "most
popular" are thrown around like hotcakes. In the land-based casino gambling
industry (and the land-based industry as a whole), one of the most prized titles
is the be the "world's largest".
And now, thanks to a
claim made by the Sands Macau, the question remains as to who really is
the world's largest casino. The title has long been thought to be rightfully
bestowed on the Connecticut Indian casino resort, Foxwoods, whose title has been
challenged by the other sprawling 300,000+ square foot Connecticut Indian
casino, Mohegan Sun.
Now, the Sands Macau, which is the newest casino in the
People's Republic of China, is claiming they are the world's largest via an
advertising campaign that does not seem to mind that Foxwoods is technically the
larger of the two.
Despite the false claim
to fame, Foxwoods does not seem to mind. As reported by the Norwich Bulletin in
Connecticut, Foxwoods is not worried about losing any competition to a casino
over 12,000 miles away. And despite the fact that the Sands Macau is only
227,000 square feet, thus making it, at best, the third largest casino, Foxwoods
is not going to get up in arms about the Sands dirty little secret.
On the other
hand, casino managers were quick to point out their latest promotion - March
Madness, in which players can swipe their Rewards cards for the entire month of
March to win hourly prizes - some as much as $5,000.
