The Gordon Moody Association, which is the UK's
only specialist provider of residential treatment to gamblers with severe
addictions, is launching a multi-lingual email support channel today, which is
the first of its kind. In preparation of the September enforcement timeline
for online casino licensing laws imposed by the 2005 UK Gambling Act, the new
online service will be up-and-running with a multi-lingual team trained to
counsel severe gambling addicts.
Now with support in over thirteen different
languages, the Gordon Moody Association (GMA) has taken a huge step in
providing internationally accessible support for problem gamblers, which until
this time, has been unfortunately neglected. Joining the GMA's call for
widespread international regulation, is
William
Hill and BetFair - both of which have a deeply imbedded presence in the UK
and international online gambling industry. BetFair is already displaying the
GMA STOP! emblem (a hand on a red stop sign) which provides a link back to
GMA's Gambling Therapy Helpline.
In addition to email correspondence, the helpline
is also configured to provide live chat support for gamblers who need
immediate help. Considering that getting problem gambler's just to ask for
help is a huge step in the right direction, having a live support team is
crucial for even just listening to gamblers who are at their most vulnerable
hour. There is also a live online forum overseen by GMA counselors.
Formerly known as the Gordon House, the Gordon
Moody Association was renamed to pay tribute to its founder, Reverend Gordon
Moody, who first brought Gamblers Anonymous to the United Kingdom. With over
thirty-one years helping problem gamblers get their lives back, Gordon House
certainly knows the signs of problem gambling. Creating therapeutic
communities made up entirely of acutely addicted gamblers, Gordon House has
developed treatment solutions that pertain specifically to gambling addiction,
as well as the peculiarities of addiction to online casino gambling.
