The largest casino in London (at least for the time
being) is scheduled to open in less than two months according to This is
London. Being dubbed the Casino At The Empire, the establishment is
precisely that. At one time the Empire Ballroom, the new casino has had £16
million pumped into it in order to accommodate 1,700 guests, several gaming
rooms, a full service bar, two restaurants, nightclub, VIP players room and a
large poker room.
The Empire Room used to operate as a cinema, and is
thought to be home to the first publicly played moving pictures in England
(thanks to the Lumiere brothers). Before that, the Empire Room was a Music Hall
(as early as 1884). Obviously, the site has come a long way from its humble
beginnings of innocent movies and music to its modern day life of casino
gambling and nightlife entertainment.
As it stands now, the Casino At The Empire has
thirty gambling tables, cutting-edge video gambling machines, and a poker room
with its own bar and large enough to accommodate eighty players. With two gaming
floors comprising 50,000 square feet of space, the site will be the largest
operating casino in London. London Clubs International will be handling the
management and operations of the casino.
Opening in May, Casino At The Empire will likely
not get to hold onto its title of "largest London casino" for long. With the UK
Gambling Act coming into enforcement, the doors have been opened for
larger-than-normal
UK Casinos to make their way into London. Manchester is the
first and only city in England that will be home to the largest casino in the
whole of Britain.
