Boyd's Pennsylvania Casino Prized for its Location

Online Casino Conditions Staff
March 15, 2006

Many Philadelphia residents are wondering if it is true that Boyd Gaming will actually be putting up a huge casino resort in the middle of "Nowhere", Pennsylvania.  Immediately past the Chester County border in Pennsylvania is the relatively remote Limerick area, where Boyd gaming has purchased real estate to build a slots parlor that would eventually evolve into a full-size casino resort and conference center.

The purchase has some residents wondering what Boyd Gaming - one of the largest gambling operators in the world - is thinking.  Sure, the site is not like any of Boyd's six other current projects around the globe, nor will it likely become the status of their Borgata Casino in nearby Atlantic City;  However, Boyd thinks that the location is a prime one for numerous reasons.

The VP of Development for Boyd Gaming, Blake Cumbers, addressed some of the residents' concern by explaining why the location is so prized.  He explained that commuters from nearby Philadelphia would only have to take a forty-five minute to Limerick, instead of a one-and-half hour commute to get to casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  Another incentive is that Limerick is insulated by not being too close to other state lines, where other potential gaming properties could go up.  Finally, the icing on the cake was the announcement by Chelsea Premium Outlets to put up one of their high-end retail outlet centers in the same location.

The only rub is that there will not be the table games that Atlantic City gamblers are used to.  Rather, there will be over 5,000 slot machines and other similar casino resort amenities, eventually including up to seven restaurants, retail shops, an entertainment lounge and business meeting facilities.
