The Saratoga Racecourse of New York has
announced a dusk-till-dawn betting schedule in conjunction with live
thoroughbred racing in the United Kingdom. Being called "Breakfast with the
Brits: Racing Across the Pond", the new summer promotion will allow bettors to
use their $3 General Admission tickets to gain entrance into the park just after
7 a.m., bet on their favorite horses and sit down to enjoy breakfast while
watching the races unfold on live television screens.
Beginning July 25, 2007, Saratoga
Racetrack patrons will get an opportunity to live it up in true UK style five
days a week. All activities - including breakfast - will take place in a covered
tent area near the front gate entrance of the Spa Track. Betting feeds will be
streamed live from tracks all over the UK, including Nottingham, York, Haydock,
Newmarket, Catterick, Thirsk, Goodwood and Sandown.
In other news from Saratoga, a father
and son horseracing team pleaded guilty in court on charges of horse doping.
According to court reports, the two men admitted to injecting cobra snake venom
into the horse Disco Force A in a race at Saratoga's track on October 26 of last
year. The exact crime for their offences is termed "felony interference with a
domestic animal", and will be accordingly sentenced on August 31.
The incident at
Saratoga was the first time anyone had pleaded guilty to horse doping charges,
which may very well give cause for some bettors to speculate the outcomes of
certain previous races. However, despite the scandal, horse racing goes on as
usual at Saratoga Racecourse, which still remains one of the most popular
horseracing tracks in New York.
