Greyhound Racing Injuries Result in Eight Animals Put to Sleep

Yet another reason to gamble at an online casino: Animal Rights. It is no mystery that in the world of greyhound racing, these animals are often subjected to abuse and ill treatment. While considerable progress has been made to help protect racing dogs, the fact of the matter is that the act of racing alone is rather harmful to their health. Take Hinsdale Greyhound Park for example, where the number of injuries in the first four months of 2007 have tripled since one year prior.

To get an idea of what "triple the amount of injuries" actually equates to, according to state records, more than one dog per day was getting injured at Hinsdale between January 1 and April 30, 2007. Overall, this amounted to 141 dogs incurring injuries directly as a result from participating in races, with eight dogs (one every other week) having to be put to sleep due to the severity of their injuries. According to injury reports, some of the dogs were dealt with bone fractures so severe, they were protruding though the skin.

First reported in the Brattleboro Reformer, these morbid statistics amount to a 276% increase in injuries from one year ago. Grey2K USA, which is a U.S. non-profit greyhound rights activist group, has been doing its part to spread the news and drum up more support to put an end to greyhound racing. Now with over 20,000 active supporters spanning all fifty U.S. States, Grey2K USA is doing outstanding work to help stop the cruelty inflicted on greyhounds.

As for Hindsdale Greyhound Park, which is located in the tribal casino wonderland and gambling friendly state of Connecticut, they continue "business" as usual. Apparently, the Connecticut House of Representatives thinks greyhound racing is a tolerable, humanistic and worthwhile activity, for they recently defeated a proposal that was endorsed by community leaders, lawmakers and animal shelters to put an end to greyhound racing by 2009. Seriously folks, if you want your fix on greyhound racing, many online casinos offer virtual greyhound racing games. Give these animals the justice they deserve and consider other forms of betting.
