Last month, online gaming software
manufacturer, CryptoLogic, signed a deal with Playboy Enterprises to create a
branded online casino fitting with the adult entertainment company's
world-famous image. Those who are familiar with Playboy's exploits and
enterprises should know that this was the company's first time entering the
online casino gambling industry. All the way back as far as February 2001,
Playboy signed a deal with UK gambling powerhouse, Ladbrokes, to develop the
Playboy Online Sportsbook and the Playboy Online Casino in March of that same
year. The adult enterpriser went on to also open Playboy Racing USA, which
was through Penn National Gaming in September of the same year.
Amidst all of these ventures, which
frankly, have not been enormously successful for the company, the contract with
CryptoLogic foretells a strong likelihood that Playboy will be shutting down its
initial internet betting sites, and attempt to tap into the online casino
industry with a focused and more knowledgeable approach. And there are few
companies better suited to helping them do this than CryptoLogic. Playboy
CEO, Christie Hefner, said her company needed a trusted and established name in
developing and managing online casinos - a backend software provider who knew
how to brand an entertaining and innovative online gaming site.
The insiders at iGaming News probed
Playboy Enterprises, Linda Marsicano, about whether the company planned to keep
their former online casino, sportsbook and racebook active on the Web, she
stated the company does not like to discuss specifics on the deals they make.
What she did say, which is revealing in itself, is that Playboy is very excited
to be working with CryptoLogic, and that the new collaboration will help to
create a unique gaming site branded exclusively for Playboy.
Considering that Playboy has no
published payout percentage reports on their current online casino (at least at
the time of writing this article), not to mention the overall website has very
limited information and needs a major makeover, it would seem like a wise choice
for Playboy to put all of their online gaming assets and energy into a single
site, which could very well end up being an all-in-one online gambling site in
the not-too-distant future.
