It's been a few days
since the highly anticipated iPhone by Apple was released to the masses. In
true Apple fashion, the iPhone is supposed to offer the latest high-tech
performance and user friendliness. However, in even truer Apple fashion, the
iPhone is has its peculiarities in the areas of compatibility. Certainly
compatible with all of Apple's other gadgets and software programs, in the
world of PC's and PC software, Apple speaks another language.
The online gambling
industry knows this all too well. Still waiting for the first fully
downloadable Mac online casino, gaming operators are very aware of the
potential loss of business from dedicated Mac user's. Catering to Mac
user's has always been a strategic focus of some online casinos, especially
SlotLand,
who since the early days of online gambling has successfully catered to Mac
user's. In fact, SlotLand does not even offer a downloadable version of their
software platform. All of their games are compatible with mobile phones, with
the most recent being the iPhone.
Gearing up for the
debut of iPhone, SlotLand was quick to announce their games would be
compatible with the device considering there are hardly any other online
casinos who can say the same. Since the iPhone does not support Flash
technology nor permit third party applications, even Safari (Apple's web
browser) can't be used as an intermediary to play Flash games. However, Safari
can be used to access the online casinos themselves. Here is where SlotLand
differs from the rest of the pack: Their proprietary mobile games are based on
html and xhtml technology, which permits Web surfers using Safari on an iPhone
to play the games directly in a rich graphical interface.
While Mac's can still
access the Flash version of online casinos, the Flash platform does lack a few
gaming options that the downloadable version usually offers, such as a wider
selection of games. Perhaps this is what makes SlotLand so popular with both
PC and Mac user's. Having a selection of thirteen casino games, including
blackjack, video poker and slots, SlotLand keeps things simple. However, they
also know how to treat their players. All of their slots are linked up as an
in-house progressive, thus giving their players better odds than some of the
expansive networked progressive jackpots maintained by large gaming software
operators.
