Over the last five years the online
casino gambling industry has immensely benefited from the strict regulatory
standards of the British Channel Island and States of Alderney. Now -
keeping with their fine reputation, not to mention keeping up with the UK
Gambling Act - Alderney announced on Wednesday of this week that the e-Commerce
development division, being advised by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission,
they have completed a groundwork revision of their online casino and gaming
laws.
The revision essentially amounts to
an entire rewrite, considering the original, fundamental procedurals were being
buried by updates and modifications to the regulatory laws over the previous
five years. The new law is a synthesis of previous online casino
ordinances, but with modernized licensing options presented in a more simplified
manner. The regulations themselves have been broken down into three
distinct provision, which will be overseen by Alderney's Gambling Commission.
The first provision, or section, is
regarding the the nature of the full online casino license, which now
single-handedly governs online poker rooms, internet-based lotteries, online
casinos and sportsbooks, regardless if operated from a mobile platform, online,
or any other platform. The license has an annual fee of £70,000, and has a
grandfather clause for online casinos already licensed in Alderney, which means
these sites will still be permitted to receive benefits of the new regulations,
which include the absence of casino gambling taxes and duties.
The second part of the regulations
deals with responding to future changes that will be necessary in keeping up
with the evolving online casino gambling industry. Rather than submitting
amendments to the Alderney legislator (which could take at least three months to
finalize), the Alderney Gambling Commission is in charge of writing all
regulations, which now inherently facilitate updates by including operational
provisions in the regulatory law itself.
The final component of the
regulations includes a provision for a restricted-use online casino gambling
license. Keeping with the requirements that all online casinos and gaming
sites must abide by in terms of game fairness and customer relations, the
restricted license is simply for operators who want to operate mirrored online
casino sites from within the Alderney jurisdiction while still operating in a
locale other than Alderney. This license would permit online casino
operators to use e-gaming equipment in Alderney (when needed) for a daily fee,
rather than the annual fee imposed on normal casino licenses. This system
is designed to allow online casino operators to still operate in case of server
crashes (for those operators who do not have duplicate back-up servers).
The Alderney Gambling Commission is
very confident the new regulations will continue to attract online casino
operators and boost the popularity and legitimacy of the internet gambling
industry even more. The commission further contends that current operators
will be pleased with the new framework.
