The latest New York Broadway show to make it to
Las Vegas amongst the Strip casinos is the hit musical, Spamalot. Based
on the award-winning motion picture, "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" (1969),
which laughingly centers around King Arthur and the Knights of the Round
Table, Spamalot has found a new home at the aptly renamed, Grail
Theatre at Wynn Las Vegas casino resort. Directed by famed American director,
Mike Nichols, and written by Eric Idle, Spamalot received rave reviews
on Broadway.
The headliner for the Las Vegas show will by John
O'Hurley, who is best known for his portrayal of J. Peterman on Seinfeld
and more recently as the first season champion of Dancing With the Stars
and host of the TV gameshow, Family Feud. A charismatic performer,
O'Hurley is sure to be brilliant in the leading role of this zany comedy.
As for the shows writer, Eric Idle, he is a
headliner in his own right. Idle was one of the original writers on the Monty
Python film and television shows, wrote the West End play, Pass the Butler,
a mockumentary film, three novels and has performed in The Greedy Bastard
Tour. Lyrics and score were written in collaboration with John De Prex, who
has composed over twenty feature film scores, including A Fish Called Wanda
and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Oscar and Tony Award winning Director Mike
Nichols is best known for his legendary films, Working Girl, The
Graduate, Silkwood, The Birdcage, and Closer. Nichols
is also fondly dubbed as the "actor's director", known for his insightful
understanding of the acting craft, and in getting strong performances from his
actors.
