As another vital piece of
Vegas history is demolished, we online
casino lovers can't help but get a bit sad.
As the atmosphere of the online gambling
industry becomes more and more credible, one
more physical part of the old school
Vegas skyline is taken-away.
After two different
construction phases were created to make the
Showboat casino back in the 70's 195 pounds
of explosives deconstructed it this week.
The old 19 story hotel and casino was never
really known for major celebrity sightings,
but it was home to many local gamblers.
The 450 room hotel
took less than 20 seconds to demolish, too.
In front of nearly one hundred onlookers
near the site, the piece of Vegas casino
past was taken-down early Wednesday morning.
Station Casinos and
its demolition partners cleared the property
in order to may way for bigger and better
things to come - as most Vegas casino
demolitions do. We are just glad that this
isn't happening to our favorite online
casinos - right?
For the past five
years, the casino was known as the Castaways
and was located near the section of town
where the Boulder Highway merges to
become Fremont Street.
The powerful
destruction actually went off without a
hitch, and as far as demolishing a building
goes - it was said to have been perfect. As
tens of thousands of us were logged-on to
our favorite online gambling spot around
7am, Wednesday, the building disappeared
from view forever.
Station Casinos now
has a vacant (well as soon as the bulldozers
clear it properly) a vacant lot for prime
Las Vegas development where the 52 year-old
building stood just a few days ago. Station
says it is still focusing mostly on its
Spring opening of the new Red Rock Resort
located outside Vegas.
