Okay, so the
kidney stone actually belonged to
William Shatner - not the famous
character he played on Star Trek -
get it? Nonetheless, this story is
the latest chapter in online
casino giant Golden Palace's saga to
gain media attention.
Without
stating all the cheezy quotes
that could so easily go with this
story, we will do our best to get to
the point here. In order to raise
money for a charity, William Shatner
thought that it would be a great
idea to auction-off his recently
passed kidney stone on eBay. As
bizarre as selling an actual
calcified piece of whatever
sounds, it was a gallant gesture.
But,
overshadowing the fact that Mr.
Shatner raised $25,000 for Habitat
for Humanity,
Golden Palace has
snatched the item up and gained a
ton more of free online casinos
press. More on that in a second.
Shatner simply
stated that hard-working but needy
people are in need of housing. He
wanted to do what he could to help.
This is great, but when Golden
Palace bought the item, it seemed
that media types focused on the
online gambling casino's purchase
instead of focusing on where the
money was going.
Habitat for
Humanity is a great not for profit
organization that provides
affordable housing for those in
need. Yes,
Golden Palace
Casino paid
$25,000 for the item online and 100%
of it is going to the charitable
organization - but one can't help
but feel that the real message was
missed here.
Whatever the real reasons for the
purchase of the kidney stone (one
does not think it was just to get
the Trekkie memorabilia), Golden
Palace got just what it was looking
for - way more advertisement
than $25,000
could buy without hype. Okay, so a
great charity got $25,000 grand and
Golden Palace got a great deal on
advertisement.
After all,
Golden Palace has been gaining media
attention for such incredible antics
in the past, this new development
should not come as any surprise to
online casino players like us. It
just would have been nicer to hear
more about why the stone was being
auctioned instead of who bought it.
