There is a new tournament on the poker circuit, and
it promises to be entertaining and for a good cause if nothing else. Sponsored
by VH1 and UltimateBet.tv, the Spring charity tournament is being dubbed the VH1
Classic Rock 'n Roll Celebrity Poker Tournament. And while there will be some
classic rock 'n roll artists in attendance, several established heavy metal
artists will be there as well.
Scheduled for its VH1 television debut at 10 p.m.
on March 14, the tournament will feature several well-known bad boys of Rock 'n
Roll, including Sully Erna from Godsmak, Vinnie Paul from Pantera, Damageplan,
Scott Ian from Anthrax, Ace Frehley formerly from KISS, and the rock 'n roll
legend, Dusty Hill, from ZZTop. Being hyped up by the players as a death match
of sorts, the action should be fun and entertaining. Considering the cash pool
winnings will go to the winner's charity of choice, the play at the table will
certainly be light-hearted.
As part of their sponsorship promotion, to online
poker room, UltimateBet.tv, has given away two free seats to two of their
members. In addition to getting to sit and play with the world's greatest rock
legends and be on national television, the two lucky winners get an all-expenses
paid trip to Las Vegas and $150 spending money each day. The winner of the
tournament will also get a free buy into the UltimateBet Poker Classic held in
Aruba next year.
The VH1 Classic Rock 'n Roll Celebrity Poker
Tournament will be hosted by Phil Helmuth and will also feature tournament
within a tournament. After players are knocked out of the regular competition,
they will make their way into a Green Room, where poker stars Phil Laak and
Antonio Esfandiari will be waiting to give an interview and coaching. The
players will then compete in head's up action in the Green Room, the winner of
which will get a free cruise to Alaska.
