The Responsibility in Gambling Trust recently
praised a provision written into the 2005 UK Gambling Act that will help to
establish a "white list" of online casinos and gaming jurisdictions operating
outside of the United Kingdom. The list will essentially serve to govern what
online gaming jurisdictions outside Europe will be permitted to advertise
their gambling services in the UK. In keeping with several mandates designed
to protect UK gamblers and British youths, the white list will ensure only
reputable and trusted companies will be represented.
The Chairman of Responsibility in Gambling Trust
(RIGT), John Greenway, said the RIGT was very pleased to see several
governmental bodies in attendance at a gaming summit last October, during
which time, discussions were had regarding how gaming jurisdictions could and
should go about getting on the same page for implementing effective protocols
that will help curb underage and problem online casino gambling.
In addition to their commendation of the online
gaming white list, the RIGT singled out the UK government and the Department
of Culture, Media and Sport for their commitment to openly share the findings
of their expanding gaming research and to continue addressing the public with
awareness campaigns on how to gamble online in a responsible manner. The same
goes to UK and white-listed online casino operators who must agree to operate
and advertise according to strict responsible gaming guidelines.
As the 2005 UK Gambling Act is now coming into
full force, the Department of Culture, Media and Sport is extending
invitations to gaming jurisdictions outside of Europe to demonstrate these
high standards of responsible gaming practice, like those practiced by
eCOGRA
Casinos. On a similar note, they will be keeping their eyes open for
illegitimate online casinos and betting operations attempting to infringe on
the UK internet betting industry.
